Dual and Multiple Specialty Recertification Offerings

With eight specialties recognized, six in various stages of development and over 26,457 BPS certificants, there has been significant growth in pharmacist board certification.  In addition, there are more than 1,597 (up from 781 in 2015) pharmacotherapy specialists who hold one or more other BPS certifications.

Since 2014, BPS has approved pilot programs for dual recertification offerings administered by the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) in the specialty areas of Ambulatory Care Pharmacy and Pharmacotherapy.  Beginning in 2016, the pilot programs have been expanded to include specialty areas of Critical Care Pharmacy and Pediatric Pharmacy.   Dual Certificants can claim up to six (6) hours per year per specialty area (or 42 hours over 7 years) on activities approved for dual recertification.
