Washington, DC – The Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) seeks Board-Certified Pharmacists to serve on its 2020 Specialty Councils.

 

TERM AND ELIGIBILITY

The term of appointment for BPS Specialty Council members for this call is January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022. BPS must receive nomination materials by Monday, April 15, 2019. The Councils will review nominations during their summer business meetings. The BPS Board of Directors will consider recommendations for appointments. BPS anticipates the decision of new Specialty Council Members to be made before November 2019.

 

Prospective Specialty Council members must have at least five years of experience in the specialty practice area. Specialty Councils should be comprised of pharmacists with extensive practice expertise across different practice settings. Participation on other licensure or certification boards, and experience with BPS activities (i.e., as an item writer, role delineation study panel participant) are preferred, but not required.

 

PURPOSE

Specialty Councils serve the following purposes:

  • To recommend to the Board of Pharmacy Specialties standards and other requirements for certification and recertification of pharmacists in the specialty.
  • To develop and administer examinations as required for certification and recertification of pharmacists in the specialty.
  • To evaluate the qualifications of individual pharmacists and to submit to the Board of Pharmacy Specialties the names of those pharmacists recommended for certification or recertification in the specialty.

 

Specialist Position (Board-Certified Pharmacist): Pharmacists holding current BPS Board Certification in the pharmacy specialty area under the responsibility of the Council are eligible to apply.

 

BPS has outlined ideal expertise, practice setting, and experience of prospective Board-Certified Pharmacist nominees based on the needs of each Specialty Council for this appointment cycle. Please note that the Specialty Councils strive to maintain a mix of practice expertise and practice setting. As such, the needs of each Specialty Council are different and will vary from appointment cycle to appointment cycle. A description of desired characteristics and a link to nomination materials are provided below.

BPS must receive all the following items NO LATER THAN Monday, April 15, 2019.

Ambulatory Care Pharmacy (three BCACP specialist positions open, one BCACP incumbent is eligible for reappointment)

  • Population Focus: Geriatrics, Women’s health, Pediatrics
  • Practice Focus: Neurology, Gastrointestinal, Hepatology, HIV, Public Health, Pain Management, Addiction/Substance Abuse, Comprehensive Medication Management, Community Antibiotic Stewardship, Social Determinants of Health
  • Practice Expertise: Biostatistics and Research Methodology
  • Practice Setting: Community Chain/Independent Pharmacy, Family Medicine/Primary Care/Private Office, Government (Armed Services/FQHC/NIH/Public Health Service/VA, Home Health/Home-based Primary Care), Hospital/Health System-based Clinic, Managed Care
  • International perspective for consideration: Education, training, and practice outside of the U.S. will be considered.

 

Critical Care Pharmacy (three BCCCP specialist positions open, three BCCCP incumbents are eligible for reappointment)

  • Practice Focus: Administration/Management, Biostatistics and Research Methodology, Burn, Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Gastrointestinal, Hematology/Oncology Supportive Care, Internal Medicine, Practice Accreditation Systems
  • Population Focus: Geriatrics, Pediatrics
  • International perspective for consideration: Education, training, and practice outside of the U.S. will be considered.

 

Geriatric Pharmacy (one BCGP specialist position open)

  • Practice Expertise: Administration/Practice Management, Biostatistics and research methodology, Dermatologic, Genomics, Hematologic, Hospice/Palliative Care, Infectious disease, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Patient safety, Psychosocial issues, Public health, Recent long-term care pharmacy clinical experience in the US
  • Practice Setting: Community pharmacy/Chain Pharmacy, Hospice, Hospital – Community, University, VA, Home Health/Infusion, Independent Consultant/Clinical Pharmacist, Long-Term Care Pharmacy/LTC facility, Managed Care
  • International perspective for consideration: Education, training, and practice outside of the U.S. will be considered.

 

Nuclear Pharmacy (three BCNP specialist positions open, three BCNP incumbents are eligible for reappointment)

  • Practice Expertise: Academia, Legal and Quality, Nuclear Pharmacist with Health-System and/or Institutional Practice
  • Practice Setting: Administrative/Corporate/Corporate Support, Consulting Company, Contract Research Organization, Health-System/Institutional based Nuclear Pharmacy, Radiopharmaceutical Manufacturer
  • International perspective for consideration: Education, training, and practice outside of the U.S. will be considered.

 

Nutrition Support Pharmacy (three BCNSP specialist positions open, one BCNSP incumbent is eligible for reappointment)

  • Population Focus: Geriatrics, Pediatrics
  • Practice Expertise: Biostatistics/Research Methodology, Public Health, Drug Delivery/ Pharmaceutics/Sterile Compounding
  • Practice Setting: Government: NIH/Public Health Service, General Community Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Tertiary Care Hospital, Home Health Care| Long-term Care, Nutrition Support Clinic
  • International perspective for consideration: Education, training, and practice outside of the U.S. will be considered.

 

Oncology Pharmacy (three BCOP specialist positions open, one BCOP incumbent is eligible for reappointment)
