Appointed Members for 2010

Rebecca S. Finley (Chair) is Dean of the Jefferson School of Pharmacy at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Finley earned the Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy, and the Master of Science in Institutional Pharmacy from the University of Maryland. She also completed residency training at the University of Cincinnati Hospitals, Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr. Finley is a past president of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).

Sharon M. Durfee, BCNSP is Director, Poudre Infusion Therapy, LLC in Fort Collins, Colorado. She earned the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree from the University of Wyoming, where she currently holds an Adjunct Clinical Faculty appointment. Ms. Durfee has extensive experience in practice and teaching in the nutrition support field. She is the past Chair of the Specialty Council on Nutrition Support Pharmacy and is currently the Nutrition Support Pharmacy specialist member of the Board.

Sandra R. Edwardson is Professor of Nursing at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing in Minneapolis. She earned the Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota, the Master of Nursing degree from the University of Washington in Seattle, and the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Hospital and Health Care Administration from the University of Minnesota. She recently completed a year-long assignment as Senior Nurse Scholar at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Department of Health and Human Services, in Rockville, Maryland. Dr. Edwardson serves as a non-pharmacist health professional member of the Board.

Susan Goodin, BCOP is Associate Director, at The Cancer Center of New Jersey, in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She also serves as Professor of Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology at the UMDNJ/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Goodin earned the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the University of Kentucky in Lexington. She also completed Pharmacy Practice and Oncology Pharmacy residencies at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. She is a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP). She is past Chair of the Specialty Council on Oncology Pharmacy and is currently the Oncology Pharmacy specialist member of the Board.

George H. Hinkle, BCNP (Chair Elect) is Associate Professor in the Division of Pharmacy Practice and Administration at the College of Pharmacy, The Ohio State University. He also serves as Director of Nuclear Pharmacy Services at the Ohio State University Medical Center and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology, School of Medicine, The Ohio State University. He earned the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and the Master of Science in Bionucleonics and Nuclear Pharmacy from Purdue University, Lafayette, Indiana. Mr. Hinkle is past Chair of the Specialty Council on Nuclear Pharmacy and is currently the Nuclear Pharmacy specialist member of the Board.

Melinda Joyce currently serves as the Corporate Director of Pharmacy at The Medical Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky. She serves as a preceptor for pharmacy students and teaches nursing students from Western Kentucky University. She is a graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy. She is a past-president of APhA-APPM and has served as a Trustees on the APhA Board of Trustees. Joyce has been honored with several awards, including the Gloria Niemeyer Francke Leadership Mentor Award from APhA and the APhA-APPM Distinguished Achievement Award in Hospital/ Institutional Practice. She is a Fellow of both APhA and the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Beth Mertz is an assistant professor at the University of California, San Francisco, with a joint appointment in the Department of Preventative and Restorative Dental Sciences, School of Dentistry and in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences in the School of Nursing. She is affiliated with the UCSF Center to Address Disparities in Children's Oral Health (CANDO) and is a research faculty member at the Center for the Health Professions where she has worked since 1997. She has researched, published and lectured on a broad range of health professions workforce policy and analysis issues including supply and demand of providers, health care regulation, state and federal workforce policy, access to care, and evolving professional practice models. She holds a BA from the University of Southern California, a MA from the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota and a PhD in medical sociology from the University of California, San Francisco. Ms. Mertz serves as the public member of the Board.

Maria Llana Posey, BCPP is Regional Research and Medical Specialist for Pfizer, Inc. She earned the Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Texas A&M University in College Station, a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, and the Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Texas at Austin and San Antonio. Dr. Posey also completed a Psychiatric Pharmacy Residency at the University of Texas and Austin State Hospital. She is a past Chair of the Specialty Council on Psychiatric Pharmacy, and is currently the Psychiatric Pharmacy specialist member of the Board.

Marsha A. Raebel is Investigator, Pharmacotherapy Research in the Institute for Health Research at Kaiser Permanente Colorado in Denver. She also serves as a Clinical Associate Professor of Pharmacy at the University of Colorado School of Pharmacy. Dr. Raebel earned the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from South Dakota State University, and completed her Doctor of Pharmacy degree and Clinical Practice Residency in Adult Medicine at the University of Texas at Austin. She was a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist from 1992-2006.

Terry L. Schwinghammer, BCPS (Immediate Past Chair) is Professor and Chair, Department of Clinical Pharmacy at the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy in Morgantown. Dr. Schwinghammer earned the Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana. He completed a hospital/clinical residency at the Indiana University Hospitals, and is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist.

Suzanne R. White is the Emergency Medicine Specialist-in-Chief at Detroit Medical Center and the Emergency Physician at John D. Dingell VA Medical Center. She earned her M.D. "With High Distinction" from Wayne State University School of Medicine. She holds professional memberships with the American College of Medical Toxicology, the American Medical Association, and Michigan State Medical Society among others. She also serves as a medical toxicologist and Medical Director of the Children's Hospital of Michigan and the Michigan Poison System.

Jean-Venable "Kelly" R. Goode, BCPS is an Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacy, School of Pharmacy, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). She is the Director of the VCU Community Pharmacy Practice Program and Community Pharmacy Residency Program. She worked for 10 years with Ukrop's Pharmacy to develop enhanced patient care programs. Dr. Goode is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist. She received her BS in Agricultural Economics from Virginia Tech and BS in Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy from VCU. Dr. Goode is the APhA Trustee member of the BPS Board.

Richard J. Bertin is Executive Director of the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties. Dr. Bertin earned the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh, Master of Science in Hospital Pharmacy from the University of Minnesota, and Doctor of Philosophy with a major in Pharmacy Administration from the University of Minnesota. Prior to joining BPS, he held several clinical and administrative positions with the United States Public Health Service, where he served as Chief Pharmacist Officer and Assistant Surgeon General. He joined BPS as its first full-time Executive Director in 1997.
